Shelter Staff Plead for Someone to Give a Sweet Senior Bulldog a Chance at a Forever Home
It’s every shelter dog’s dream to see themselves bidding goodbye to the shelter environment and going home with their forever person. Unfortunately for some dogs, this dream often takes too long to materialize.
This is the case for Rajah, a 7-year-old English Bulldog who’s been a resident at the Humane Broward shelter in Fort Lauderdale for the longest time. Sadly for Rajah, potential adopters loverlook her because of her age and size.
In an emotional TikTok video, the Humane Broward has sent out a desperate appeal for someone out there to take a chance on Rajah and give her the loving, fur-ever home she so deserves.
Rajah Described As the “Sweetest, Most Amiable” Lady
The video posted on TikTok account @humanebroward, shows Rajah donning the cutest pink dress and running excitedly in a hallway before peeping out the window, as though waiting for someone to walk to her and utter the words: “Let’s go home, sweet girl!”
Rajah is certainly trying her best to keep the hope alive. She deeply desires that the next would-be adopter will see beyond her size and senior status because she’s a complete package on the inside: A gorgeous, affectionate, friendly pup who captivates the hearts of those who interact with her. Why she’s yet to find a home — despite her fabulous qualities — remains a puzzle for the shelter staff.
Part of the video’s caption reads, in a nod to the hit Netflix series Bridgerton: “We know she is not the youngest of debutants, nor the most petite for that matter. But do not be fooled, dear reader, she is certainly one of the shelter’s sweetest and most amiable ladies.”

Being a senior pup who craves nothing more than a peaceful life, Rajah is best suited for a household with larger dogs compared to smaller dogs, who may be too rambunctious for her. Even better news? Her adoption fee has already been paid, so the lucky person who gets to take Rajah home has one less monetary burden off their shoulder.
So far, the TikTok video has garnered over 7000 views, and as netizens continue to share it, we remain optimistic that it will soon land on the feed of that special person who holds the key to Rajah’s happy ending.
Just Like Their Younger Counterparts, Senior Shelter Dogs Also Make Incredible Companions
Despite the wonderful attributes that senior shelter dogs possess, the fact is that they’re frequently passed by in favor of much younger dogs.
What’s worse is that most of the senior pups in shelters were surrendered by previous owners when their old age kicked in. Award-winning pet rescue advocate, Rocky Kanaka, who’s all too familiar with this ageism reality, says: “I don’t know if people just get annoyed with their old dog or think maybe he’s old and if he comes here [shelter] they’ll take care of him. I feel like it’s usually that they think he’s a nuisance.”
