Blind Puppy Left by Roadside Finds New Hope with Heroic Rescuers
So when Sadie’s Dog Rescue received videos and images of a blind old dog who had been abandoned next to a busy town road at the end of February, Laura knew she had to help. Without a second thought, she went in search of the dog for herself to see what could be done.
Blind, Afraid, and Alone
When she spotted the dog on February 28, the pup was lying beneath a bare, thorny bush. She hadn’t moved from that spot in days. While this helped her stay safe from the busy road, it was clear that she was afraid, confused, and completely blind. Luckily, a kind man had been feeding her since she’d been abandoned there a few days earlier, but she needed to be moved to Sadies’ Dog Rescue. Despite her fear, she was very gentle and easygoing with her rescuers.
Once safe, the Sadie’s rescue team named the dog Teasel. They removed ticks, made her a vet appointment, and gave her a warm, comfortable space of her very own. Needless to say, this old gal needed some time to decompress before she could learn to trust again.
Healing Thanks to Helping Hands
The next update from Laura and Teasel came on March 4, when the dog rescuer posted a video on the rescue’s public Facebook group. Teasel ate a chicken dinner, which she has been enjoying daily, but still did not seek out human touch.
However, everything was different by March 17. The European rescue pup was now wagging her tail at the sound of Laura’s voice and beginning to explore more of her new environment. Best of all, she had gotten to visit the vet. Though she still needs to see an eye specialist, her first appointment revealed only slightly abnormal bloodwork. Sadly, it also revealed a possibly metastatic mammary tumor. This isn’t an unexpected find for a dog as old as Teasel, but she received additional testing to get more information.
Kind strangers from the Sadie’s Dog Rescue public Facebook group have been sponsoring many of Teasel’s chicken dinners, as well as the entirety of her first round of vet bills.
As Teasel’s one-month rescue anniversary approaches, she is showing more of her sweet personality every day. She now seeks out attention from Laura and friends, and she’s now enjoying a brand-new plush dog bed all her own.
Sadie’s Dog Rescue will continue following up with Teasel’s medical care and eye care, and those who want to continue following her journey can do so on the rescue’s Facebook group.
