An everyday angel: a schoolgirl rescues a homeless dog, bringing renewed hope on her walk home.
One rainy day, Mayane Rodrigues watched something beautiful happening from the window of her Brazil apartment.
Rodrigues saw a small girl hesitating on the wet pavement as she walked from the street below home from school. Before taking off her bag, she set down her umbrella and took off her jacket.
And then she saw what it was for.
When Rodrigues saw a drenched stray puppy at the girl’s feet, she understood that everything was for her.
Rodrigues watched the girl carry the puppy in her arms and walk away. She seemed like an angel to Rodrigues.
She couldn’t believe her eyes.
“It all happened so quickly. It was very emotional,” Rodrigues recounted of that very moment. “I sent the video to a friend who, shared it to a neighborhood group, and then I found out who the angel was.”
The little savior goes by the name Cibely Stiegelmair and she’s 12 years of age.
Cibely’s mom was also surprised apparently.
“I was startled when she arrived with the puppy because she was very sweaty and wet from the rain,” Rejane Stiegelmair, Cibely’s mother, recalled. “There was blood on her shirt. I thought she had been hurt, but she told me she found the puppy injured.”
Thankfully, the dog didn’t sustain too much harm. When Cibely noticed the dog sitting by itself, she felt she had to do something.
She didn’t hesitate at all.
According to her mom, Cibely has always had a good heart. She has been really vocal about feeling sorry for dogs without homes. She’d want to rescue all of them if she could.
Cibely gave the puppy a warm welcome into the household. She named her Pretinha.
Pretinha is now part of their beautiful family.
Pretinha’s exact circumstances are unknown, but one thing is for sure: Cibely has given her a bright future.
Because of her, the dog’s life is forever changed, and her parents couldn’t be any prouder of the goodness of their daughter.
So they supported her decision without any hesitation.
A dog is a great friend — one that will always love you, even when you’re not the best friend you could be. Adopting a dog can teach responsibility and compassion for others.
Plus, adopting an animal is often cheaper than buying one! And if you’re interested in purebreds or designer breeds (or “mutts”), there are plenty of dogs in shelters waiting for homes who need love just as much as their pedigree counterparts.
Stray dogs are actually very friendly and loyal. They’re not dangerous, so you shouldn’t be scared of them.
What they lack in training they make up for with their social nature — they love being around people and other dogs, and will gladly serve as a great companion if you take the time to learn how to care for them properly.
Adopt a dog from your local shelter. It’s the responsible thing to do, and it will help you save a life—the same way Cibely did.
